Simple as can be yet this drink is surpassingly filling, and can be used in place of milk shakes and other potentially bladder hazardous drinks.
If you know that bananas or apples bother you, simply omit them and increase the oatmeal by a quarter of a cup. This is wonderful ice cold along side a hot breakfast such as scrambled eggs and English muffins.
Sweet Oat Milk
2 cups of pre-cooked and cooled oatmeal (room temperature)
4 cups of ice cold water
1 large banana or apple, peeled and cut up into chunks (see note about fruit above)
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract (if you really want to go all out use the seeds from a whole vanilla pod) honey to taste (optional)
a pinch of flax seed (linseed) or a few drops of flaxseed oil (optional)
In a blender combine the banana or apple (if using) and oatmeal, pulse for a few seconds and slowly incorporate the water.
Blend for a minute or so and add the honey, vanilla and flaxseeds/oil, continue blending until you have a smooth light coloured drink.
Pour into four glasses (or two very large glasses) and serve cold with ice cubes if you like. This does not keep to well, so it is best consume shortly after making it.
